Manny Patrick Vargas is an, author, speaker, coach, host, and former restaurant owner. He grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, one half mile east of the world famous strip on the patch of land that is now home to terminal three of McCarran International Airport.

Manny nearly lost his life, twice, before the age of five, once due to a severe asthma attack that left him in the hospital hooked up to respirators and the second time the result of a harrowing car accident that left him unconscious for several days and clinging on for dear life. At six years old, he suffered a broken right arm that left him behind in school and feeling senseless compared to his peers. Adversity has been a consistent companion in his life from the start, and, as if growing up with an absentee mom wasn’t disheartening enough, at ten years old his mother passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer.

In his youth there was a bright spot – baseball. Manny found the sport of baseball offered him a chance to thrive. He was good enough at it to dream big, expecting to make it to the majors one day. He was recruited to play baseball at the University of San Francisco hoping to propel himself into a professional baseball career, but alcoholism and poor decision making ended his college playing days, and life long dream when his desire to party all the time resulted in him being blacked out drunk and missing games.

Despite Manny’s struggles, he has always been a survivor with a personality that wins people over which has helped him find hope throughout the various stages of his life. After his baseball dreams came crashing to an end, he returned to Las Vegas, spent some time at the local community college and UNLV, but never earned a degree. At the same time, he gained a lot of business and hospitality industry experience before launching several businesses of his own.

Manny worked at variety of places in Las Vegas including, Fiamma at the MGM Grand, BOA at the Forum Shops at Caesars, Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas, XS at Encore Las Vegas as well as Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Los Angeles and The Beverly Hills Hotel. He became co-owner of Chicken Bonz, with two locations in Las Vegas by the age of 26. The restaurants went out of business in under a year, as did his third attempt at owning a restaurant, For Goodness Shake, leaving Manny having to start over again.

Through his twenties, Manny sought out opportunity and worked hard to improve his chances at success. Unafraid to humiliate himself and unconcerned with what people thought, he was able to network with people who helped him raise in excess of $250,000 but he couldn’t outwork or outrun the evil sultry temptation.

Vegas is no stranger to persuasion, maybe it breeds the idea, or maybe it’s just a place for those already on that path to indulge whatever impulse calls to them. Manny lost baseball, along with businesses, and women he loved, simply because, alcohol, drugs, and gambling had him in their grip. Between jobs, he even sold cocaine and ecstacy to make ends meet and stay above the negative bank account balance line.
